PTMSC Volunteers
Our volunteers are the life-blood of PTMSC. They provide invaluable support in everything we do. Almost everyone who has the willingness and time can find a role as a volunteer that contributes to the organization in important ways.

Volunteer Activities at PTMSC
Our volunteer activities include serving as exhibit guides or “docents” in our Marine and Natural History Exhibits, maintaining aquaria and feeding animals, assisting with beach walks and education programs, participating in collecting scientific data in our “Citizen Science” research and monitoring programs, helping with outreach at festivals, the Farmers Market and other events, and maintaining ties within the community.

Other volunteers serve on the PTMSC Board or committees, organize and help run our annual “Tides of March” Fundraising auction, assist in putting on lectures and other public events, do photography and videography, and use other special skills. This list is constantly changing. As we evolve as an organization, opportunities for volunteering with us evolve too!

Some volunteers carry out regularly scheduled tasks, while others fill special needs that come up occasionally. But however you choose to volunteer, you'll decide how much time you want to work. If you want to take a break or have travel plans--no problem! We're happy to work around important events in your life.

How to Become a Volunteer
If you'd like to find out about volunteering at PTMSC, please call or email Jean Walat, our Volunteer Coordinator at 360-385-5582, ext. 112.

To become a volunteer you'll begin by filling out a volunteer application form. You can pick one up in our exhibits, or you can download our Volunteer Brochure and Application Form. Simply print out the application form on the brochure, fill it in and return it to Jean. She will call you to discuss what you hope to gain by volunteering and the special interests and skills you bring. Together you'll decide the initial volunteer role(s) that best match your interests and skills, as well as the needs of the PTMSC.

Once you're registered as a volunteer, you’ll receive a weekly email that describes upcoming events and announces new volunteer opportunities which you can respond to to if you're interested.
