Join the Marine Mammal Stranding Network training on Saturday, March 29th, from 9:30-11 a.m. in the Marine Exhibit, sponsored by the Port Townsend Marine Science Center (PTMSC).
If you’re curious about those seal pup signs you’ve noticed on the beach at Fort Worden or have wondered what to do when you’ve discovered a pup injured or dead on your beach walk, this is a program for you. Many people wonder what to do in a situation like that. Anyone can make a report about a stranded, injured or dead marine mammal to the Marine Mammal Stranding Network, locally staffed by PTMSC volunteers, by calling the PTMSC. But if you’d like to learn more and become one of those volunteers who respond, you’ll find this training especially informative.
For more information about the training session, please call Jean Walat, the PTMSC Volunteer Coordinator, at 385.5582 ext 112. The program is free to PTMSC volunteers—a great incentive to become one today.
The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is devoted to understanding, preserving and teaching about our marine and shoreline environment as guardians for a sustainable future. Located on the beach at Fort Worden State Park, the PTMSC offers two public exhibits: the Marine Exhibit (ME) features large touch pools and aquaria, and the Natural History Exhibit (NHE) highlights the rich zone where land meets sea. The NHE is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. and the ME is open by appointment only. Admission to the NHE is $3 for adults, $2 for youth and free to PTMSC members. The PTMSC also offers a wide variety of educational programs and special events. For more information, call 360.385.5582, e-mail info@ptmsc.org or visit www.ptmsc.org.
