Why Support PTMSC?

Over the last three decades, the Port Townsend Marine Science Center has become the preeminent public science venue on the Olympic Peninsula. Devoted to marine and coastline education and conservation, it offers a great variety of options for people of all ages to learn about, get involved with, and just enjoy our wonderful local environment. We work to instill the values of stewardship and conservation through a myriad of educational programs.

We invite you to contribute in any way that you can to making the decades ahead as productive and satisfying as those behind us. This may include participating in programs and exhibits, becoming a member and/or volunteer, attending our Tides of March auction or donating funds to assure the fiscal well-being of our organization.

PTMSC is a 501(c)(3) organization as determined by the Internal Revenue Service. Perhaps you are interested in contributing to the programs highlighted below, or you might consider contributing to PTMSC through one of our Planned Giving Options.

School Program Fund
Since its inception, the Port Townsend Marine Science Center (PTMSC) has worked closely with teachers and school administrators to provide high quality science education for their students.  Our programs for schools are specially designed to give students hands-on, field-based experiences not possible in school classrooms. The recent sharp decrease in school funding has reduced ability of schools to afford field trips to places like PTMSC. We are seeking funding to help us continue providing quality programs to the most hard hit school districts. Your contribution to this fund will directly support improved science education programs for K-12 students.

Seth Bender Scholarship Fund for Summer Camps
Seth Bender was a young man with a zest for the natural world and especially the marine environment.  After his death in a snowboarding accident, his family established a fund which will allow other young people to experience the marine environment, under the mentorship of staff and volunteers at the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.

Unrestricted Gift
Unrestricted charitable gifts are used strategically to support our educational and conservation priorities. (Whether you choose to restrict a gift or not, your support will help carry on the important work of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center for future generations.)

Gift in Honor
Consider honoring a friend, family member or colleague with a gift to support the mission of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.  Recognize birthdays, weddings and other special occasions.  We will send the honoree a special card telling them of your thoughtful gift and the honorary gift will be acknowledged in our newsletter.

Memorials
Memorials are a wonderful way support the Port Townsend Marine Science Center while honoring someone who had an interest in marine education and conservation during his/her lifetime. We will acknowledge your gift to a friend or family member and in our newsletter.

Benefit Auction
This major event funds outreach, education, and expanded understanding of the importance of our marine environment.  Proceeds from the auction help fund scholarships and make hands on learning opportunities available to thousands every year.
