Stone Stories
Grades 2-3
Rocks on our beaches are varied and interesting. Students examine, sort and describe beach rocks. Through discussion, diagrams and dynamic activities, they learn some ways that rocks form, change, break into smaller rocks, and sometimes reform into new rocks. They look for clues in the colors, patterns and shapes of these rocks that might tell how the rocks came to be the way they are.
Each student chooses a rock and creates a story of its origins and “adventures” on its way to where it was found on our beach. |
