Plankton and the Marine Food Web

Plankton and the Marine Food Web
Grades 4-12

Students use microscopes to observe and draw organisms seen in a marine plankton sample. They discuss adaptations of these organisms to life as a member of the plankton community. Students also observe filter-feeding animals in our exhibits to discover adaptations that help them capture plankton.

Students build a marine food web based on photosynthesis by phytoplankton and follow the flow of energy through the marine ecosystem.
