Herring Dissection
Grades 6-8
Students examine and make detailed drawings of the external and internal anatomy of the Pacific Herring. They locate and discuss the function of the heart, liver, digestive tract, swim bladder and other important internal organs, and they use microscopes to observe the fish’s gills, scales, and eyes.
They discuss the important adaptations of the herring, both internal and external, that help meet the life needs of this ecologically important fish. |
